People often ask me what they can do to see fashion shows. Here’s some fantastic ones open to the public – and most are free – at 10 Days of Fashion in the City…

People often ask me what they can do to see fashion shows. Here’s some fantastic ones open to the public – and most are free – at 10 Days of Fashion in the City during 28 February and 9th March 2014.

10 Days of Fashion in the City is funded and managed by Heart of the City and supported by partnerships with Resene, Viva, George FM and Schwarzkopf.

Free events

1. Britomart Fashion Sessions 2014 shows in the Atrium on Takutai are free to the public if you stand (or $45 for seated goody bag seats, tickets from www.iticket.co.nz)

2. ‘Hello, We Are The New Zealand Fashion Museum’ a free exhibition featuring four unique fashion heritage stories at Silo Park in Wynyard Quarter from 1st March to 9th March. It comprises 4 mini clothing displays from their previous exhibitions: Black in Fashion, Looking Terrific – El Jay, Home Sewn, and Seventies fashion in Age of Aquarius. Silo 6 at Silo Park in Wynyard Quarter on Jellicoe Street.

3. Britomart Country Club invites you to enjoy Films on Fashion. As part of their summer film series, BCC are screening the September Issue and Bill Cunningham New York to celebrate 10 Days of Fashion in the City. Admission is free but seating is limited so be sure to get in early.

4. Valentino: The Last Emperor is screening free at Auckland Art Gallery Atrium on 3rd March at 1pm.

5. Free Fashion Workshop with Anna Caselberg, wardrobe consultant and author of The Closet Stylist, shares her expert tips and advice, illustrated with the latest on-trend outfits from Max at Auckland City Library on Lorne Street, 5th March at 5.30pm. 6. AGATHA Paris are celebrating the launch of their intergalactically-inspired new fashion jewellery collection, Cosmic Girl, with a red carpet event at their High Street boutique – and you’re invited! AGATHA Paris, High Street, 7th March at 4. No ticket, free entry.

7. Woody Allen’s Annie Hall. Free film screening outside at Silo Park at Wynyard Quarter on 7th March at 9pm. Outdoors, no tickets required.

8. New Zealand’s Longest Catwalk presented by Schwarzkopf, is a 125m-long catwalk show – the longest on record in NZ – will stop traffic on Queen Street between Shortland Street and Wyndham Street for an afternoon with 40 models walking in 80 in-season outfits styled by Kylie Cooke (fashion stylist from New Zealand’s Next Top Model and X-Factor) including Huffer, Coach, Smith & Caughey’s, Max, Moochi, Barkers, Glassons and many more. Hosted by Shannon Ryan. 1pm Saturday 8th March on Queen Street.

9. Silo Markets brings together Auckland’s greatest and best-loved retail outlets, designers and fashion houses. This market will be the best place in the city to fill your wardrobe for the coming season while grabbing a bite from a wide array of mobile food stalls and a cold drink from the Silo Park bar. Jellicoe Street, 8th March from 12 noon.

10. Official Wrap Party, presented by George FM at Britomart Country Club. Aroha will be spinning some great tunes and BCC’s usual delicious array of snacks and beverages will be available. Plus the first 50 people to arrive will receive a goody bag packed with fashionable treats, thanks to Jumping Goat, Resene and Remix Magazine. The Britomart Country Club, Galway Street, 8th March from 3pm.

…and one very flash event…

The Height of Fashion is the launch event for Heart of the City’s ‘10 Days of Fashion in the City’ to be held on 27th February, with a second event on 7th March, at Peter Gordon’s The Sugar Club. It will feature previews of the latest collections from Bendon, Trelise Cooper, Hailwood, Adrienne Winkelmann, Kathryn Wilson, Taylor, Yvonne Bennetti, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Deadly Ponies, and Zambesi. Guests will have the unique opportunity to be seated at a table with a designer during the luncheon events, and hear the inspiration behind their collections first-hand while dining on lunch with matched wines designed by Peter Gordon.
