With the title ‘Out of this world’, you know things are going to be special, and the models in WOW Award-winning costumes at Air New Zealand’s pre-show party on Saturday night had guests in awe.

It was actually kind of surreal, having a glass of bubbles, in an art gallery, mingling amongst models in amazing costumes. Usually you’d put on a party frock and heels – but not leather whips, embroidered jackets and hats!

The stunning creations being worn were from previous years’ shows, and gave guests a teaser of the night ahead, at the drinks evening hosted by Air New Zealand for clients and friends about to head into the 2012 Brancott Estate World of Wearable Art Show.

Even the venue was an inspired choice, as the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts at Queens Wharf in Wellington was filled with beautiful handmade quilts currently on exhibition to the public by day.

Below: the super-lovely Kelly Kilgour and Amelia Hunt of Air NZ. Amelia wears dress by Gorman and a Calvin Klein jacket, Kelly wears a dress by STORM.

We heard the funny story that Air NZ’s Rob Fyfe actually wore this men’s jacket, below, to a board meeting! But not the trousers.

Whena Owen of Campbell Live looked gorgeous in a purple Veronica Maine dress and a bag she made herself, and her partner wore a suit by Bugatti.
