Anthea Tucker and MichaelJohn Jewellery fashion show

Ant’Homme II by Anthea Tucker

On a cold winter’s night in Auckland, on Thursday 17th July in a car park tucked behind Symonds Street, a catwalk was ready and waiting.

In collaboration with MichaelJohn Jewellery, Anthea Tucker’s Ant’Homme II presentation – a follow on from her show last year- showcased the use of traditional female pattern blocks with simple unbalanced proportions.

The range -of which each piece is a one off- offers a mix of woolen and wool-blend fabrics. “The structured jackets and bottoms dictate the use of heavier fabric to maximise each structural shape. However when piecing an outfit together my eye is drawn to balance these hard lines with soft fluidity, hence the use of the soft silk chiffon, and the hand knitted mohair yarn” says Anthea.

For the designer, the tonal palette of grey references society and its naivety towards clothing and social labelling and the idea that our lives are not all black and white.

Anthea’s outfits were complemented with plenty of jewellery, in particular intricate rings, and the use of silver as the preferred metal.

Anthea says; “My use of silver adornment holds personal relevance, for I feel that silver is the modern day metal holding social status – certainly amongst my peers – as opposed to gold which was the metal symbolising wealth when my grandparents were growing up.”

You can find the collection on sale at 203H, a gorgeous store located in the La Gonda Arcade, at 203 K Rd, Auckland. At this stage only one collection is produced each year so head along to grab yourself an exclusive piece for the winter months.
