Auckland Crafter Melissa-Jade Gregan makes divine interior decor, cushions and crafts upcycling old pure wool blankets and is holding an exhibition at Cigana Cafe – we can’t wait to go check out her latest works over drinks and nibbles on Saturday 3rd July…

Her label, the wittily-titled Blanket Statements, consists of embroidered artworks and homeware handmade by the creative and talented Melissa-Jade Gregan.

She has been selling on craft sites and direct to friends and the items are so popular that she has decided to take it to the next level, with an exhibition to showcase her designs.

The exhibition is hosted by her good friend Tim Jones at his fabulous cafe, Cigana Coffee, at 129 Apirana Avenue Auckland. No entry fee, free nibbles and drinks, and lots of free parking in surrounding streets, for this one night from 7 to 10pm.

The exhibition will begin at 7pm and drinks and nibbles will be provided and it’s open to the public and anyone interested in crafts and design with a unique New Zealand and vintage edge.

So, what are Blanket Statements like?

The great thing about Melissa-Jade’s work is it looks great in contemporary or classic interiors; in children’s rooms and in living rooms. Throw them on the kids beds or on your lounge sofa, and give them as a special birthday or Christmas gift, especially to expat friends overseas.

And prices are so reasonable especially when you consider you are getting a handmade piece of art. We often see cushions which are prints and aren’t even a one-off, selling for $195 in design stores in Newmarket and Ponsonby. Blanket Statements are around $65 depending on the cushion and the Southern Cross four-star embroidered cushions start around $40 – $45 each! Amazing and so gorgeous.
