Boho gypsy

A Picton stylist found just how useful a grandmother’s wardrobe could be on a photo shoot this month.

Hair and make-up artist and stylist Rachel White used vintage clothes – owned by model Anneka’s Grandmother – to dress two of the girls at her South Island home for the shoot, photographed by Jody Percy.

UK-trained stylist Rachel gave the models soft, feminine looks to create a boho gypsy feel. She also used her own clothes, as well as a vintage headpiece sourced from a local second-hand shop for Anneke’s hair, to give the models an ethereal look.

The small town of Picton and the quaint stream behind Rachel’s backyard where the shoot took place were inspiration for the day.

“Both the stream and Picton in general have been Rachel’s biggest inspiration as she’s a bit of a gypsy at heart.” says Jody.

“I love big hair and big bangles!” adds Rachel. "Why do I love boho style? Because life is way too fascinating and beautiful to spend time on fashion rules."

Rachel adds, "Boho style is inspirational, dreamy, and whimsical; flower children full of whimsy and free-flowing dresses that touch the earth, and flirty hair."

"Boho style will also inspire you when it comes to adding more colour to your wardrobe, wearing three more bangles, going barefoot, and exploring the vintage racks of the corner boutique. Boho is a look of a girl who looks dreamy enough to belong to the cover of your dad’s old records."
