– Taiana Design www.boticca.com/taianadesignboutique/ (USA)
Taiana Giefer is a mixed media artist out of California and New York, her work and company jumpstarted out of collaboration with Calvin Klein, where she was very spontaneously hired to make yards of custom fabric for the Fall 2011 RTW runway show.
Taiana’s creation process is inspired from an old felting technique. It is a very laborious and time consuming type of weaving without the assistance of a loom and instead woven by hand. The only materials involved in the process are raw fibre from different breeds of the Merino Sheep, warm water, and soap naturally made from olive oil. The Merino is an economically influential breed of Sheep prized for its wool. Merinos are regarded as having the finest and softest wool of any sheep, making it a perfect material for scarves and wraps. After a series of extended agitation techniques and hand cleaning processes have been applied to the fibres following the weave, the pieces are ready for wear. This process can take anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks to create just the right texture and aesthetic. Each piece is 100% handmade by Taiana, and will turn out unique from any other.

– BRAI Jewellery www.boticca.com/braijewellery/ (France)
Claire Naa is the founder of BRAI Jewellery which was born in 2010 in France. BRAI Jewellery won the “creator of the year 2011” award at the Paris Capitale de la Creations awards. BRAI Jewellery was born out of a rare and beautiful moment when Claire was caught and hypnotised by Braille inscriptions on a box of medicine. Without being able to read the writing, she was captivated by the graphic beauty of these dots that had a message. Filled with meaning and secret codes, Braille inspired her to weave the script into jewellery pieces – this marked the beginning of BRAI Jewellery.
For each piece sold, BRAI Jewellery donates €3 to the Valentin Hauy association for the Blind. The brand’s ambassadors are the blind singers Amadou & Mariam from France.
