Thread.co.nz spoke to talented young New Zealand jewellery designer Holly Howe about her silver contemporary jewellery line, Holly Howe Collections, and her inspiration behind her work.

Her jewellery has no cutesy motifs and floral emblems; rather, it has a masculine strength to it and a weighty solidity.

Holly graduated with a degree in Product Design in 2009 from Otago Polytechnic. She released her Out of the Blocks range in 2011 and has a new range arriving for winter 2012.

"Holly Howe Collections stems from my love of design" she says.

"The inspiration for my current collection, Out of the Blocks, and my new collection – yet to be named – coming out on the 1st of March 2012, reflects my love of architecture and geometric shapes."

"I like to work with sterling silver. All my pieces are solid, which gives them a high quality feel."

"My favourite piece, if I had to choose, would be the Pyramid Ring ($260). I love chunky jewellery that is practical enough to wear everyday" says Holly.

She already has secured a surprising number of stockists and also sells online. Holly Howe will be the name on everyone’s lips, and the rings on everyone’s fingers.
