We first heard from The Stockroom after their debut 2013 Catwalk in the Street runway show. Over the following twelve months the boutique, which sits on the corner of Broadway and Remuera Road in Newmarket, has continued to thrive.
If you are not familiar with The Stockroom, they are a small creative boutique that designs, manufactures, and retails women’s clothing locally. The brand’s clothing sells to customers from all over New Zealand via their online store, and their latest range can be seen on customers from further abroad in Australia & Canada.
Thread spoke to designer and store owner Kendall Watt too hear what we can expect in this seasons range and what’s in the pipeline from The Stockroom.
“People are beginning to embrace New Zealand made a lot more now that we have been in Newmarket 18 months. Once consumers realise it’s possible to buy a New Zealand made silk shirt at the same price as a Chinese made polyester shirt, their eyes open and they become big fans” says Kendall on her desire to keep things local.
“It’s not easy going against the grain and supporting local manufacturing, however we find the loyalty and support from those who care to buy local brands to be tremendously encouraging.”
What can we expect to see from The Stockroom in the future? “We are looking for a second location to reach a greater audience, and to continue to focus heavily on growing our online and social channels.”
