The sun was scorching on Saturday 12 March which was just perfect as my partner and I dolled ourselves up for a day of horseracing at Ellerslie Racecourse for Diamond Day 2011.
Cathy Campbell Communications kindly invited us along to a reserved area of the main stand where we mixed and mingled with other industry guests and sipped on Champagne.
The afternoon consisted of the biggest art event ‘Resene Fastest Art Exhibition’ with 18 works in the form of life-size fibreglass horses.
Eighteen New Zealand personalities transformed a plain white fibreglass horse into a work of art on the theme "Racing around Auckland."
Marc Ellis’ horse "On Your Marcs" was the overall winner fetching $4,500 for his charity the CatWalk Spinal Injury Trust.
Later on in the afternoon I managed to snap a few photographs of the lovely ladies who entered into the Diamond Darling Fashion Competition.
Style spotters selected their picks of ladies who dressed to impress.
All the Darlings went into the draw to win an 18ct white gold diamond ring from Anna Webster Jewellery valued at $12,550.
It was great to see the crowd dressed up in their suits and dresses, hats and fascinators- and even turbans.
Spots and 50’s inspired dresses were aplenty, as were brightly coloured dresses in pinks and reds.
Lulu Wilcox and Miriama Smith.
Unfortunately for us our bets weren’t winners, but the day was thoroughly enjoyable and was a reminder that the races are the perfect occasion for dressing up and buying that new outfit!
