When a big rock comes to town, you put on some fancy clothes and pay it a visit. And whoah, was it a big sparkly rock!

On Wednesday, 3rd November 2010 Michael Hill, New Zealand international jeweller, brought along his 22 carat diamond ring to showcase the prize for the World’s Best Couple.

The Michael Hill Queen Street store was filled with people wanting to get a look at it and get a chance to try it on.

The competition was launched last week with Kim Kardashian in New York. Couples residing in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are eligble to participate in the competition. To win the ring, couples will have to garner votes after completing a series of simple challenges online. According to Mr Hill, the ring is priceless and he is eager to hand it out to a very deserving couple.

Although Kim Kardashian is the front of the competition, it was a pity the reality TV star was unable to attend the Auckland launch. Nevertheless we had our very own beauty, the gorgeous winner of NZ’S Next Top Model, Danielle Hayes to model the ring. After Mr Hill had officially launched the competition, eager attendees of the event lined up to try on the diamond ring with Mr Hill slipping the ring on while violinists serenaded them.

To win the prize, contestants have to be dating, engaged or already married and can enter the contest through Facebook, Twitter or at My22ct.com.

May the most deserving couple win. Here’s hoping a New Zealand couple win it!
