Eyewear trends at Sunglass Hut

We headed into Mantells on the Water to see this Summer’s eyewear trends at Sunglass Hut today.

Every season, we look forward to this glimpse into the coming summer’s key looks, from prestige brands including Prada, Miumiu, Burberry, Versace and Vogue Eyewear, as well as the latest in prescription eyewear trends from OSPM.

Eyewear can sometimes be an entity in itself when it comes to trends. While we see most of the key fashion trends emerge in eyewear (luxe sport anyone?) we also see some eyewear specific trends each season too.
So we thought it might be a good idea to show you through the key trends when it comes to eyewear. Here are five key trends in eyewear this season:

1. Embellishments

Embellishments give distinction to any pair of sunglasses or opticals. This season bigger is better with Versace’s Lady Stud collection in particular. As if the bold colour and over-size wasn’t enough, these frames have been embellished with Lady-Gaga style studs. Incidentally, she is also the face of this collection, so there you go! (VE 4269)
Embellishments are also found this season on the arms of these over-sized Miu Miu (MU 09PS) and Prada have a particularly exciting collection of brightly coloured styles embellished with over-sized Swarovski crystals (PR 22QS).

2. Transparent frames
Seen most prolifically in the Charlotte Ronson for Vogue eyewear collection. This collection is super sweet – especially the optical; who wouldn’t want a completely transparent optical? (VO 2887)
Reliably beautiful, Miu Miu has put together an absolutely stunning collection this season; 60s inspired and hand painted with a nylon-based paint in Italy, they really are something special. (MU 07PS)

3. Circular Frames

Circular frames are seen across several brands this season. Prada has gone Harry Potter chic with their collection of circular frames (PR 13RV). And Persol has again given us classic circular style, this time with foldable frames (PO 3075S). For a slightly less “directional” circular frame, Burberry have some very wearable pieces (BE 2169) as does DKNY in bright pop colours (DY4117).

4. Flash Lenses

Flash Lenses are across the board this season. Dolce & Gabbana have teamed the sporty flash lense with feminine florals in their Almond Flower collection (DG 4231) and also in their kids collection. Persol have even included flash lense in their collections (PO 3081S). Ray-Ban, as one would expect has also pushed this trend with brightly coloured flash lenses (RB 3447)

5. Interesting Materials

Ray-Ban is the go-to brand this season for interesting materials. They’ve got a great velvet covered collection, complete with flash lenses (RB 4171). They’ve also redone their classic wayfarer with liteforce – a material known for it’s strength; it’s even used in spaceships (RB 4207)!
Persol’s frames are hypo-allergenic and made from cotton, so if you have particularly sensitive skin, these could be an option for you (PO 649).
