For those whose job requires them to have a better level of grammar than they ever received at school, this book is a godsend.
Written by Craig Shrives, a British officer with a 25-year military career, Grammar Rules is a lively way to learn the rules.
I expected it to be quite dull and dry.
Rather, it is a fun read filled with witticisms that demonstrate the right and wrong way to write sentences. I loved all the Woody Allen, Oscar Wilde and Groucho Marx quotes.
I particularly enjoyed learning about how to extend a sentence and the differences between commas, colons and semicolons.
Grammar Rules is a useful reference I’ll hang on to and be sure to go to again to check things that the computer spellchecker just won’t do. It is published by Kyle Books and distributed in New Zealand by New Holland for $24.99 in hardback.
