Hot foot it

I am told NZ women have quite a thing for red shoes. Add in the animal trend to the mix of textured snakeskin prints, with perennial leopard print (which just never seems to die in the Antipodes) and the whole Mad Men influence…

It hardly feels like winter is even here with a fantastically summery Easter – but you can bet in the next couple of weeks Winter will make its presence known. And out of sheer boredom with summer clothes, all the wintery ones are looking rather exciting.

Hannahs have their own take on the international trends – and instead of completely copying the trends as we sometimes see happen in New Zealand, they like to take a little bit of this and add it to a little bit of that. Just so they do it their own way. So all the trends are there – just mixed to their satisfaction.

It is great to see colour still featuring so strongly – this time more of the jewel colours – fuchsia, red, turquoise, cobalt and purple. I am told NZ women have quite a thing for red shoes.

Add in to the mix the animal trends, with textured snakeskin prints and the perennial leopard print (which just never seems to die in the Antipodes) as well as the whole Mad Men influence, with a retro 40’s feel to the court shoes, ankle straps, and heels in both block and the more shapely stiletto heel featuring.

Here’s what Thread liked best…

We liked the Provocator in Leopard $179.95 which was doing both the animal trend, and the 40’s inspired trend.

The simple ballet flat (which all seems to be fashion eternal) is given a bit of an 80’s twist with a pointed toe. We picked the Poisson in Turquoise $119 as it was doing both the jewel colour and the flat trend.

Nude colours are still also strong with beige, cream and khaki.

We picked the Haut in Beige at $119.95

Below: Bahrain $149

We have a great love of the ubiquitous boot and it continues with a great variety of shapes, colours and heels. I still don’t think you can go wrong with a decent black flat knee high riding boot. It is a classic – and still does the miles.

We picked the Ryder boot $199.95 in black.

That said I am very taken with the navy suede Prairie Boot in Midnight $119.95 with its ankle height, back zip and solid Cuban heel.

If the last few seasons of wedge heels have taught us nothing else – they have reminded us how fabulous a solid heel is. It is always nice to have a little bit of height – and a Cuban heel is a very practical, walkable heel.

All caution is thrown to the wind with the evening range however. There is nothing safe or ‘pedestrian’ about any of these! Lots of satin, sequins, straps and diamantes.

We rather liked the glittered shoes as well… but we picked the Bedazzler in purple at only $79.

And lastly the court shoe seems to be all things to everyone with a thin wedge heel, platform wedge and a stiletto heel.

We picked the Haut in Fuchsia $119 – it was doing both the jewel colour and the wedge trend.

Something for everyone, and every budget.
