I’ve always bought off the rack in shoe stores and only rarely bought shoes on the Internet, partially for fear of them not fitting. Until now. I’ve just ordered made to measure boots from The Bootmakers. What does this entail, you ask? Well, it was easier than I thought: I ordered the style online at www.thebootmakers.com and chose the style, height of heel, and colour. Then I took five measurements with a tape measure, and emailed them in. You wait, and da da! They appear, as if by the magic of the Internet working hand in hand with craftspeople in Portugal.

Close-up this is how good they look. Everyone who saw them today on the first time I wore them, said how great they looked, unprompted by me! I chose the Kate Moss-style Sienna in navy blue leather, and is leather-lined. It’s not as expensive as you think either as custom-made boots are 165 pounds to 235 pounds and New Zealand customers actually get 20% off the UK sales tax (VAT) being overseas, and they currently have 20% off as well. If you order two or more pairs at the same time you save 25%. Delivery is 25 pounds in 48 hours to Australia and NZ. Bespoke fit really suits those with unusual measurements or larger calves who find it hard to get well-fitting boots.

Here’s how I styled my navy boots.

Outfit 1: BOOTS AND SKIRT. I’m wearing Karen Walker for uniqlo print top, Karen Walker jewellery, Kate Sylvester pleated skirt, Prada sunglasses.

Outfit: SPORTS LUXE. adidas by Stella McCartney navy jacket, Levi’s jeans www.levis.co.nz, Hang Ten striped teeshirt.

Outfit 3: VINTAGE-INSPIRED. I’m giving boots and jeans a vintage-inspired look, wearing a navy felt cloche hat and a corsage handmade from a vintage tie, pinned to my Karen Walker for uniqlo shirt. Jeans by Levi’s as above. Watch by Daniel Wellington from www.danielwellington.com. See my craft tutorial to make the necktie rosette here.
