The Jewellery Trend We’re Loving: Stacking Rings

I am always on the look out for new ways to wear jewellery. Recently, I styled my Karen Walker necklace, as a belt, and got so many nice comments on it (What I Wore: Polkadots)

So, I was excited when the stacking rings trend came along and gave me new options on wearing all my favourite rings. Image above and below from Stylecaster.com

Of course, it’s not new. As long as women have been wearing rings, they’ve been stacking them. In 1954, Audrey Hepburn brought the fashion to the world’s attention when she chose to wear a set of stacked white and rose gold wedding bands. In a more fashion context, you can stack matching or contrasting styles of rings in the way you’d layer bangles up your arm.

Diamonds and Engagement Rings

The craze set by Audrey Hepburn is as popular now as it was a half-century ago. Many sets, like the ring pictured below from Michael Hill, give you ideas on how to stack diamond rings and engagement bands for a variety of looks that can be dressed down or up, depending on what you like. Additionally, just like bead or charm bracelets, new bands can be added over the years to mark anniversaries and special occasions.

Celebrities and Stackable Rings:

Stackable rings have been worn by countless celebrities. Mariah Carey, Kate Beckinsale, Eva Longoria Parker, and Jennifer Garner are well known followers of the trend who wear solitary settings, thin gold bands, and vintage stacked-rings on the red carpet and around town. Mixing Things Up:

One of the main reasons that stackable rings are so popular is that they allow so many ways to mix things up. Simply by matching and mixing rings, it is possible to create every kind of look one might imagine. Diamond and gemstones, silver and gold…the options allow so many exciting wardrobe possibilities that can be worn with many outfits.

Stacking Rings that are Right for You:

Stacking bands successfully is a knack that is easy to learn. Spend an hour or so sorting through your jewellery and pull out all of your favourite rings. Once you’ve chosen a few of your favourites, move them around on your fingers to find combinations that you like. Play with different ring shapes, styles, stone colours, and metals. Once you have found a few combinations that are right for you, decide on other rings you might need to complete the look. Images below from Stylecaster.com

Retro Stackable Rings:

Most jewellery boxes have at least one or two retro rings that can add interest to stacking. Take some of the rings that you like best and begin spacing them out over your fingers. It’s easy to achieve a romantic, contemporary, or classic style just by combining a few vintage pieces with an assortment of simple bands. You can then transition from work day to evening… just by adding an exotic piece to casual daytime bands.

The Trend We Love:

What’s there not to love? It’s never been so easy to create a look that’s as unique and exciting as you are. The key: mixing old and new; contemporary with vintage, to make a look that’s ‘you’.
