Kagi jewellery designer Kat Gee celebrated a half-decade milestone of creating beautiful bling with a party at James bar in Parnell with 100 limited edition 5-pointed stars for VIP guests, a giant birthday cake, and model Regan lying in a bathtub of gemstones.

We were welcomed by the sight of Regan lying in a bath of pearls and gems at the entrance to James bar on Thursday 28 April. Later on in the night, the designer Kat Gee herself hopped into the tub.

Thread remembers seeing Kagi jewellery at the NZ Fashion Week stands 5 years ago and was taken with the top quality approach even at its launch. Now, the costume jewellery brand is going strong, has moved from her home office to a city loft and employs six staff and is sold internationally.

“When we first started I didn’t know anything about running a business, all I had was a dream and sheer determination to make it happen," she says. "But I remember roping a friend into our first Fashion Week stand, and from the first day we were an instant success," she says. "Starting Kagi was a whirlwind of excitement, stress and a serious lack of sleep!”

Having just been signed by Nationwide, Australasia’s number 1 buying group with over 150 Australian stores, Kat is seeing her vision of international success coming true. Who knows what the next five years hold for her? We think that the sparkling star she gave away is the perfect emblem.
