Following the huge impact of the older-aged models in Karen Walker’s Eyewear campaign, Derek Henderson photographed children aged 3 to 5 for this latest eyewear release.
The four new styles – SIOUXSIE, UNDERGROUND, ROWDY and PEEK-A-BOO – are available in both colourways of the second summer 2013 collection, out 5th September.
This follow-up is the second chapter of the looks photographed by Ari Seth Cohen in New York on models aged 65 and 92. Karen Walker sees both groups as possessing "a sense of optimism and enthusiasm for the present and future…Who better to continue that sense of unbridled optimism and excitement for the future than a bunch of kids?"
The four boys and girls: Claudia, Tyler, Elise and Alice-Rose, aged between three and five, were photographed by photographer Derek Henderson who has had a long-standing relationship with Karen Walker’s campaign imagery for years.
They aimed to capture "their untarnished positivity and boundless curiosity. This group represents a carefree time in all our lives, when things were less complicated and everything lay ahead."
"The idea of shooting kids as a follow up to first summer’s concept seemed obvious to us for many reasons. Kids and mature women are worlds apart in age but this group share a thread of optimism and happiness that excites us." says Karen.
What’s the eyewear like? Big and bold with futuristic shapes in white and gold metal frames with metallic blue reflective lenses bringing a cartoony childlike feel. Black frames with dark lenses continue the laser-cut filigree we’ve seen in Karen Walker’s Jewellery line.
What’s the campaign like? The photos are of course beautiful and they look like angels, albeit quite serious and "modelly" poses. I would have liked to have seen more of the personality of the children come through. My pick is the redhead child biting her lip – super cute.
Karen Walker Eyewear’s second summer 2013 range will be in store from September 5th 2013.
