Charles Darwin greeted guests at the King of Shaves ‘Shaveolution’ cocktail party last night taking the crowd through the evolution of shaving. If you didn’t notice that the mannequins on plinths were actually actors dressed in character, as a caveman, Viking and Woodstock rocker, you got a big surprise as they came down and walked around having cocktails!
Men who showed up with a few days worth of stubble enjoyed the King of Shaves Shave Squad royal shaving treatment. Plus the King himself, Will King, flew over from the UK, speaking about his personal crusade to bring down the price of shaving.

Will King is the charismatic entrepreneur behind UK shaving brand King of Shaves who arrived in Auckland to promote the new King of Shaves Azor razor. “Men pay too much for shaving and I’m here to tell them there is a better way.”
Will King’s idea to start the King of Shaves came from his dissatisfaction with men’s shaving products; in price, effectiveness and his own long-running battle with razor-burn. “Gillette is such a powerful brand, it chooses to charge what it likes for its products, and it’s been able to do that because it’s not had any substantive competition – we set out to disrupt their monopoly,” Will says.
He was shortlisted as ‘Digital Marketer of the Year’ in the Revolution Awards 2010 for his innovative marketing approach. “You only have to observe how a brand is discussed on Twitter to see how quickly its fate can be decided,” Will says. “If someone tweets that a product is rubbish out there in the blogosphere, that can be the end of it.”
