Madonna Truth or Dare at Hannahs

I have been a Madonna fan forever. I used to even have my walls plastered with every album cover that I got on foam-core board from Sounds record store. I have DVDs, CDs, the Madonna perfume, and even a leotard and dress from her fashion line with New Look chain in England. I’m a fan.

So when the Big Reveal came at Hannahs’ press preview on Tuesday 12th February, you could have bowled me over with a feather. Madonna has an exisiting line of shoes, ‘Truth or Dare’, sold around the world, and now they are available at Hannahs and their (more youthful) Pulp stores exclusively in Australasia. This is a huge coup for Hannahs, seen as a family shoe store, to get the queen of pop’s shoes.

The shoes were revealed at a catwalk show appropriately enough at a K Road nightclub, The Studio, with fishnet-clad models in studded bras (which their brave male manager bought overseas.) The runway show opened with a dancer, Beck, performing to classic Madonna tracks and then joined by models who cast down their Jean Harlow and Marilyn Monroe face masks to the sound of Vogue.

So, what is Madonna Truth or Dare like? There are two lines, Truth, which is more pretty, and Dare, which is raunchy. Overall, it’s pretty raunchy, then. Key themes are very very high stiletto heels, metallic toe tips, bows on heels, metal studs, and spikes. With the exception of a studded spectator flat and a few ballet flats, there are two heights: a high court and a towering platform, such as the spiked one Madonna wore herself onstage on her current world tour.

You can buy the Madonna Truth or Dare range – priced between $149 and $699 for a Spanish calf thigh boot with 2,000 studs – online from next week (late Feb 2013) and from March 2013 at Hannahs and Pulp stores in New Zealand and Australia.
