Miranda Brown is one of those Kiwi fashion designers who was ahead of the rage for "eco fashion" along with Laurie Foon, Icebreaker and Untouched World.
She has just released her ‘Free The Sea’ Winter 2011 collection in her Conscious Cloth brand.
“As an artist I’m communicating about nature and our deep connection to all life. The focus of this collection is our oceans and beautiful marine world which is being hammered by human activity” says the designer.
For this aquatic theme, the AW11 collection features a starfish motif and the slogan ‘Free The Sea’ in camouflage.
In line with her natural ethos Miranda Brown uses New Zealand merino wool, tensel merino blends, Fairtrade organic cotton and silks with original artwork and special hand dyed pieces. She is well-known for her shibori style of dyeing with dipped dyed Kaftans and merino star scarves.

Miranda Brown Conscious Cloth is partnering with Enviroschools www.enviroschools.org.nz to raise money for their sustainable education programmes that "inspire young people to value life, including the oceans and the effect of human activity on land and sea."
As well as using natural fabric, Miranda Brown uses sustainable business practices in production, including the use of materials and processes, which take into account the impact on the environment.
