When you see pictures in a magazine – especially after having watched The September Issue- you may wonder what went on to get there.
Here are the behind-the-scenes pictures of how the Thread.co.nz’s first ever fashion editorial shoot, featuring New Zealand fashion for Autumn Winter 2011, came about.
It all started with the competition for a model with our Thread Model Search in October 2010. Our winner was fabulous Rose Halfpenny and the shoot took place in November 2010 at Hotel de Brett with the theme Girl on the Go.
Photographer Jessica Higueras conceived the idea, she organized all the production, the theme and liaised with the manager of the location to arrange a date, early on a Sunday morning for the long day ahead. Jessica had used stylists Sarah and Natalie before and they communicated her vision so well.
First, Jessica made mood boards using images from magazines to tell the story. Her theme of Girl on the Go would be a young urban woman starting out from an inner city hotel and going about her day then into night, having a drink, going out to a bar and dancing, so it would move between outfits from daywear into eveningwear.
Jessica visited the location at the right time of day on an earlier date alone, to shoot the locations she liked.
The door, pictured above, was used in the opening shots, pictured below.

Here is Jared preparing the "Cranberry Cosmopolitans." Jessica says, "I knew that I was going to have that shot, so I bought the juice earlier that morning. I asked the Hotel staff if we could use their glasses. By the way, the staff were all very helpful."
