Mr Bigglesworthy is really the exceptionally talented married duo of Dan and Emma Eagle. One is a restorer of furniture, the other a graphic designer – both are passionate about mid century antiques from all corners of the world.

Their enthusiam for all things beautifully-designed is very infectious and it was quite obvious last night the affection with which they are held by their clients and the industry in general. They have quietly been importing furniture from England, sourcing pieces from New Zealand and Australia and selling it on Trademe and on their own website, www.mrbigglesworthy.co.nz.

Webb’s auction house also noticed their passion and attention to detail (not to mention their vast knowledge on the subject) and asked them to curate some of their pieces, and add some of their own. With a focus on the post-World War II era through to the early 70’s, this is a splendid representation of mid-century design with a strong international pedigree.

Pieces of note are the Douglas Snelling Armchair and Footstool (1949) $800-$1000, Grant Featherston R160 Rocking Chair (1951-55) $7,500-$9,000 and the TWO Archie Shine Sideboards.

We loved them all – especially the Douglas Snelling Chair and Footstool, and also the Vintage Danish Rosewood Sideboard, the pair of Kit Stewart Turquoise Tub Chairs $1500-$2000 and the four Ernest Race Dining Chairs (that the lovely Emma Eagle is seated on) $1200-$1800.

With tables, lamps, German pottery and even posters available, there is something for every taste and nearly every budget.

The auction is Thursday 29 March at 6.00pm at Webb’s. Check out the online catelogue at www.webbs.co.nz
