Gisborne designer Leah McCann tells Thread.co.nz about her gorgeous new jewellery collection, Romance on a Pirate Ship, full of deep sea treasures in rings and necklaces made from real pearls, with bones and coral modeled from polymer clay.
"My inspiration for the collection, Romance on a Pirate Ship, has come from many sources. I recently went on my first snorkeling expedition, at a marine reserve near Gisborne. It was amazing. There’s a beautiful wondrous world under the sea!"
"I also drew from the movie Blue Lagoon…summer air…young lovers walking on the beach…"
"I’ve used a lot of fresh water pearls as I think pearls are decadent and romantic."
The hearts, bones and coral are all made by hand, modeled from a polymer clay.
"I hope people enjoy the collection and and treat the pieces as their very own precious piece of pirate treasure" Leah says. "I thoroughly enjoy making it."
