Rachel Hunter flew to Auckland from LA for an interview on the couch at an event launching her third year of the Rachel line for The Warehouse with an emphasis on the comfort that she so clearly values highly in her lifestyle.

She had a self-deprecating sense of humour, commenting that we probably see her in the tabloids, if we read tabloids, wearing a lot of comfortable stuff. "I do a lot of travelling, and being able to throw on an oversized dress, or really comfy jeans and get on a plane, is great" says Rachel. "So, that’s what I design in my Rachel range."

Rachel knows how real women shop. "Often we buy things and throw them out later so I wanted to make sure women could build on it in their wardrobes. It’s been a learning curve. This is the third range and I’ve made mistakes and learned from it."

Below: Lengths of hanging ivy lent an autumnal feel to the historic Hopetoun Alpha building in Auckland as models paraded the Rachel for The Warehouse AW11 range.

Rachel said her personal picks were the stretch denim jeans; "great for those worried about muffin tops!" she laughed.

She also likes the khaki colourways coming through and the whole military look this winter, saying "It’s cute." She added an endorsement for the wearability of her striped pieces, saying how she realises women can "be wary of wearing stripes especially horizontally!"

"We’re not buying the way we used to. So what I look for in inspiration is items that are flexible; leggings that you can put on a pair of heels with and wear for night."

Below: "The last six months have been hard." she said, perhaps referring to her recent ill health that prevented her from flying to New Zealand to present her last range showing.

For winter, Rachel says she "loves the grandpa shirt with the buttons, and the check shirts, for their comfortability."

Now, comfortability wasn’t a word I had used before but I see online it means "the condition of being comfortable." So there you are: I have learned something today from Rachel Hunter.

And I am comfortable with that.
