Christmas gifts – What to buy and where.

Tis the season to be jolly. Tis the season for joy and giving. Tis the season to get utterly stressed out because you have completely no idea what to get anyone and no time to even go out shopping.

It’s only a few more weeks till Christmas, what are you going to do? You could just go to the nearest bookstore and pick up their list of great gift ideas. A cookbook for Mum, a gardening book for Dad, or a cat calendar for the Aunty you’ve not seen since last year. But really, do you want to be known as the unthoughtful gift giver? Don’t worry; I have done the thought for you. Here are some more unusual, interesting gift ideas to give this year and you needn’t even leave the house to purchase.

Mum: She’s been there for you from the start and she’s always there to pick up the pieces – perhaps we should get something a bit more personal than the average soap set this year. Trendy mum or not, she’ll love this mother of pearl shell Tui Brooch.

It’s stylish enough to keep the fashion conscious mum hip this season but classically designed by Kate Steiner with a New Zealand influence to appeal to all women of any age. At $250 it’s not the cheapest gift, but surely mum’s worth it. Check out Kina.co.nz design and art space for more art inspired jewellery and crafts at all price ranges.

Dad: Oh my goodness, what to get dad this year? Mygoodness.co.nz have got it covered. With a huge selection of gift baskets starting at around $49 available, you’re sure to find something perfect for your dad.

At $140, The Great Outdoors basket is a fantastic buy for my dad. With 15 different tasty items, my dad’s sure to have a full belly to last him well into the New Year.

Brother: Socks? Petrol vouchers? Sure, it’s practical and most probably what he needs, but after receiving the faithful pair of black socks year after year, don’t you think your good ole bro deserves something a wee bit more exciting? Why not click onto Flyingfishdesign.co.nz and check out their funky clocks.

I particularly love their vintage collection, great for the boy who’s got everything. Choose from Dr Who, to Vespa to the Volkswagon. Very kitsch, very trendy and very well priced at $42.50 each.

Sister: There’s no point buying her clothing or accessories, because we all know, she’s only going to take yours anyway. Why not treat her with a luxury soy candle. Made from natural premium soy Candleluxuries.co.nz offers a succulent range of candles from the private collection to the pamper collection. I’ve picked the Her Luxury Soy candle from the private collection.

Bursting with feminine fragrances like floral, citrus and spices, at $26.90 it’s a great inexpensive gift to please any sister.

Boyfriend: Sure you could go for the safe cologne set, nothing wrong with that, but then again, isn’t that what you got your ex last year? Here’s a way to surprise him. Redballoon.co.nz offers a vast array of exciting adventure vouchers, choose from something a little bit cheaper and safer like the Zorbit Zorb Ride in Rotorua priced at $59 or really treat your car loving beloved with a Stunt Car Driving School (Level 1) voucher in Auckland priced at $240.

He’ll totally love driving like a loony learning all the wicked stunts in a safe and controlled environment.

Best friend: Boy or girl you wont go wrong with Schoc Chocolates in Greytown. If you’re not near by pop online at Schoc.co.nz and you wont find it hard to find the perfect gift.

You can start with a cute little box of Christmas brandy cups priced at $15.50 or go completely chocolate crazy with a luxury Christmas hamper at $225. Either way there’s nothing better than good quality chocolate at Christmas time. It doesn’t matter who your bestie is, chocolate is best way to treat your favourite mate.
