The week on Thread – episode 5

The week on Thread – episode 5 with highlights of the week, including Brancott Estate at Dry & Tea, ghd Curve, Farmers summer launch, the new season Disney Junior party at the Lido, and a fair amount of chocolate.

Brancott Estate at Dry & Tea

I headed in to Dry & Tea salon for pampering on Wednesday thanks to Brancott Estate to join fashion and beauty media in getting our hair and nails done over cupcakes by Bluebells Cakery and a glass of their Flight rose wine. Pretty tough to take. The Flight rose is my favourite. Pictured above: the fabulous hairstylist Monica and I at Dry & Tea. I wear Millicent dress, Karen Walker necklace, YSL Clearly.co.nz glasses.

Butlers Chocolates

Still on food, cos let’s face it – I’m all about the food – this is the most amazing-tasting chocolate. A case of Butlers chocolates and truffles arrived and was dived upon. The mint chip dark chocolate is to die for. Interestingly, they use ethical beet sugar not cane, ethical cocoa and no canola oil. It’s handmade in Ireland still and you can get Butlers at Sylvia Park in Auckland. I am looking forward to trying the Butlers Hot Chocolate in a drink this weekend. So good.

Cadbury goes to the carnival!

Speaking of cool deliveries, this helium balloon with a wicker basket filled with Cadbury Marvellous Creations-  new circus carnival-themed treats – arrived by courier and was quickly seconded by a small child! I hope she doesn’t re-enact the film UP and take off.

ghd Curve

BIG news in the hair world is that ghd is launching ghd Curve – 4 new hair curlers, wands, and tongs – onto the market.Robert Kovacs was over from Australia and demo’d the looks with a ghd team of stylists on girls from 62 models wearing some stunning Australian fashion. The 4 tools created curl looks that were festival, Hollywood, classic, and casual.

Below: Models from 62models demo the curls by ghd Curve.

Farmers summer launch

Thievery Studio is such a great venue; I’m surprised more brands don’t use it. Today Farmers did more of a relaxed seated format of two well-known Stylists talking us through the new Summer womenswear collections and how they would coordinate and accessorise various garments to create different looks. It’s great to see they will be stocking genuine Birkenstocks sandals, and I liked the Urban Precinct brand for a youthful trendy customer, and Whistle for lovely womenswear pieces. I was particularly taken with the increasingly good range of gorgeous plus-size fashion at Farmers summer launch today by Estelle and Wild Child.

Disney Junior

I braved the rain to head into Epsom to the Lido cinema for a private screening and lunch party for media and their children of upcoming Disney Junior  titles including Jake & the Neverland Pirates, Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins. There was so much cuteness there and the cutest moment was when a little girl got up and danced to the Sofia the First theme song! So cute. The goodybags were so great that I am literally putting it away for my children’s Christmas presents. I especially liked Jo the Supernanny voicing Captain Hook’s Nanny in Jake, and also the great feminist messages that princesses can do anything knights can do – and often do them better – in Doc McStuffins. I’d be happy to let my children watch all of these Disney Junior titles and think they have really good strong messages of kindness and values – good work guys. Not to mention some great cupcakes at your party. (I may be on a slight sugar high.)

Graham Norton Invivo SauviGNon Blanc

I now have a bottle of the very special Graham Norton Invivo: flown to London, personally trod by Graham Norton, flown back to NZ and reunited with the rest of the juice to create this SauviGNon Blanc! Better yet, Graham Norton has recently become a shareholder in Invivo wines, and serves it on his chat show!
