Cushnie et Ochs is a label for the figure-hugging, cut-out-loving crowd, and favourites amongst the young Hollywood set. Current fashion darling, Lupita Nyong’o, has been seen in many of their outfits during her interview circuit for 12 Years A Slave. The Cushnie et Ochs Fall/Winter 2014 RTW Collection was a juxtaposition of Western (yes, cowboys) and city slickers.

Housed in the fashion den of Milk Studios, this MADE Fashion Week show was one of the most exciting tickets in town. Backstage, almost two hours before the first model was to hit the runway, the creative team at MoroccanOil was getting to work.

Artistic Director, Antonio Corral Calero was already surrounded by a scrum of cameras and reporters hanging on his every word. He elucidated about ‘reflection’ being the inspiration for the hair, as he put it, “emphasizing the rich smoothness of healthy hair, when light radiates off every strand to accent its natural play of light and shadow.”

The models’ hair were treated with MoroccanOil Treatment (Light if they were blonde or fine-haired). As Colero explained, “This was key to the success of this look. It conditions, adds natural reflective shine, and creates the core effect of the style.”

Next was a mixture of MoroccanOil Root Boost and Treatment applied to the roots. MoroccanOil Volumnizing Mousse was treated through the rest of the hair.

A deep side part was made. One-inch vertical sections were blow dried and were rolled over the head downwards and pinned. MoroccanOil Luminous Hairspray Strong was sprayed throughout the hair and allowed to cool. Upon releasing the pins, hair was brushed down the back and behind the ears.

Colero had a trick to prevent flyaways and make the hair sleek. With a gentle patting motion, Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream was applied to the surface of the hair. A gentle brushing of the strands made the hair completely smooth.

To give the hair a subtle bounce, he curled the hair with a 1-1/4 ince marcel curling iron. Finally, another spray of hairspray secured the look while as he added, “allowing it to look light, vibrant and natural.”
