In this latest beauty post, we take a look at what’s new from M∙A∙C cosmetics including two with celebrity faces – the newest incarnation of Viva Glam Rihanna 2, a brand new colour collection by Brooke Shields, and a skin-matching intelligent concealer called Matchmaster.
First up: we look at M∙A∙C Viva Glam Rihanna 2
The new release from the popular Rihanna Viva Glam range for MAC is this frosted metallic mauve lipstick and lipglass. Viva glam Rihanna II is a warm mauve with silver frost and retails for $40, and the Lipglass is a cool mauve with red frost and retails for $38. It’s a very pale shade, almost milky when on, and a cool tone. The lipstick is really modern and fun if you’re looking for a metallic, and surprisingly wearable. As before the cases are the velvety red (not red velvet – that’s the cupcakes) bullet case with Rihanna’s signature on the side. Every cent goes to people affected by HIV/AIDS. Available September 11 from MAC stores.
M∙A∙C Matchmaster Concealer
I really like this concealer. A brand new product release, Matchmaster Concealer shares the Shade Intelligence technology of the existing Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15. This achieves skin-matching colour with a satin finish. The concealer was very creamy and blendable and not at all dry – this is due to the Vitamin E component. Ideal to cover your dark circles, spots, pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles. The concealer sticks come in 12 shades, and is available from 15th September retailing at $45. I blended with my fingertips, but if you use a brush they recommend 195 Concealer brush ($54) and 193 Angled Foundation brush ($90).
Brooke Shields for MAC
Oh my goodness. I was so excited when I saw online that Brooke Shields was collaborating with MAC to do a signature colour collection, and in these contemporary chic grey cases to boot. The iconic woman, model, and actress has used her own favourite colours in this limited-edition collection that easily moves from day to night: with eyeshadows in soft nudes and pinks ranging through to strong browns and deep taupes.
The first thing that struck me was the packaging. It’s very New York and understated, with soft grey plastic packaging and clear lids with an orange square logo and Brooke Shield’s signature underneath. Secondly I noticed how orange-based, rather than pink-based, it all is. I love a good coral and a bright orange lip, so this suits me just fine.
It’s a very user-friendly range – no bright turquoise eyeshadow or yellow pigments here – just colours that will get used up down to the pan. The Veluxe Pearlfusion eyeshadow has 5 shades in Trusted Instinct and Mortal ($105 each) in shimmery pink/apricots, or plum/greys. The massive palette 15 shadows retails for $330 and the cream colour base cheek colour has a duo of bright coral pink and soft burgundy rose for $62. The lipsticks are $52 each and come in Excite (pictured: a bright orange-red a bit more orange than Lady Danger and a bit more red than Morange) and Gospel, a sheer burgundy. The Lipglass I am wearing below is Artful, a coral gloss without shimmer which retails for $56 and there’s also a bright orange-red called Knockout. Available 2nd October at select MAC locations nationwide.
