D&M Hair Design always do a beautiful yet dramatic collection to showcase their muse for the season, and this latest is no different. Entitled ‘The Sisters’, their Spring/Summer 2014 campaign currently displayed in the windows of their Ponsonby hairsalon has a retro vibe of strong iconic rock women, with a dark edge to it.
Creatives Danny Pato and Michael Sisaengrath, ably assisted by Sam Choi and Jess Ishak brought the looks to life with styling by Rachel Morton and makeup by Steph Lai. The shoot was photographed by Mara Sommer with art direction was by Pato in association with Auckland creative Theresa Frankovich.
So, what was the muse for The Sisters?
Rock n’ rollers of days gone past, 1960s girl groups and punk icons came to life on model Grace, whose tousled mullet drew upon imagery of Joan Jett and Suzi Quattro. Seventies music divas Lita Ford, Siouxsie Sioux and Debbie Harry also featured.
“I’m obsessed by the power of women who can create something unique and transform when they hit the stage, and this is my salute to them” says Danny Pato.
Another Ponsonby legend – the lovely fashion designer Turet Knuefermann whose tkstore is up the road in Brown Street – created clothes specially for the campaign which was accessorized with harnesses by the very cool New Zealand label Blue Blank.
“We don’t see our campaigns as representing cuts and colours you literally ask for in salon, it’s more about a feel, a creative outlet that gets us and our clients excited,” added Danny Pato.
