PLATYPUS SHOES SYLVIA PARK

Platypus-Sylvia-Park

I’ve been a big fan of Platypus shoestore since I attended their Queen Street Auckland opening and they are seemingly set on world domination, with  Albany and St Lukes stores, the big new Sylvia Park store this month, and more through the country coming soon in Hamilton, Wellington, and Christchurch as well as a sale store at Onehunga’s Dressmart. I headed in to Sylvia Park on opening day, and was impressed firstly by the sheer number of shoes there, secondly by the variety of brands they stock, thirdly by the friendly helpful customer service staff, and lastly by the phone chargers on the try on seats. Come for a phone charge, stay to buy shoes, is the cool concept here and it would work on me. You can find the Sylvia Park store in the shopping centre at 286 Mount Wellington Hwy, Mt Wellington, phone 09-579 0455.

LANEWAY LEARNING

Laneway-Learning-NZ

Laneway Learning Auckland is getting underway in Auckland with the first classes beginning on 31st March at Alleluya Cafe, in St Kevins Arcade on K Road. Pictured above are organisers, Fi, Tara, and Bex, putting together a schedule of classes which are informal, cheap and designed to be as different from school (or office life) as possible. Classes are taught by enthusiastic people from the local community who want to share their passions, interests, hobbies and experiences in a fun and informal setting. Some of these teachers use their class to indulge a secret hobby, while others use it as a way to share skills that they have spent years honing professionally.  Coffee and drinks from Alleluya are available throughout, and attendance is capped at 20 people for each class. To book a place visit auckland.lanewaylearning.com  Classes make for a great Tuesday night out – only $14 for an opportunity to learn something new.

JIMMY D 10 YEAHS

Designer James Dobson celebrated ten years of his cool and dark label JIMMY D with a party at Ponsonby stockist, THE SHELTER in Mackelvie Street, called JIMMY D 10 YEAHS. Guests had Dunkin Donuts and drinks amongst garments over the past decade displayed throughout the store.  I particularly enjoyed seeing the archival pieces from collections over the years and I wore the spiderweb silk print dress there myself and there was one hanging in the window!
