How’s your week been? Read about ‘The week on Thread Episode 19’ to see highlights of my week (actually more like the past fortnight) in photos, including LUSH Christmas, the NZ ballet ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, Cats the musical coming to NZ, as well as new beauty from Benefit Air Patrol, amazing new shoes from ECCO Soft 7, and a personal highlight for me, of my daughter’s birthday party.
For the previous week please see my highlights at New Zealand Fashion Week here.
Intro image above: All black everything, starring fur-lined mid-calf boots by Ecco, RUBY key ring, Whittaker’s All Blacks chocolates, reversible black ring by Kagi, all other rings by Karen Walker, and glass coffee cup by De Longhi.
Sunday loves: palest grey. TOMS shoes- you buy one, they give one to children in need of shoes, hat by Seed Heritage, Quadrille fashion books.
Below: I did a post with Allen’s, creating fairy teacup gardens for my daughter’s birthday! Read it here
Below: our homemade Tinkerbell fairy birthday cake made especially to the theme by my very clever sister-in-law. It was a 3-layered chocolate cake in a Dolly Vardon style with the fairy doll intact inside wrapped in plastic wrap to re-use after; handy!
I’m very much looking forward to seeing CATS at the Civic! I saw it in London with mum when I was young and so I’m excited that the popular musical is finally coming to New Zealand. Don’t pussy-foot around, get your tickets to the show now.
What I wore on a trip to Milford Mall which incidentally is nicer than you might imagine before going; it’s a NZ-owned private mall and has a well-curated bunch of shops. I enjoyed it. I’m wearing a snuggly and warm faux fur snow leopard coat by Scarlett NZ, pleated pants from Asia, metallic sneakers by ECCO.
In beauty news, Air Patrol – the new BB cream eyelid primer from Benefit arrived with this retro airforce satchel & pin-up badges. They always do the cutest promotional tie-ins and have a great sense of humour with their puns and on-brand with the retro glamour theme they do so well. I am wearing Air Patrol now and I’ll wear it tomorrow as well under eyeshadow to see how well it lasts; I applied it with the silicon tip applicator then blended it with my fingertip. The applicator is called a Cushion Calm Tip and its designed to be softer than your finger (although as I said I blended using my finger.) Even without eyeshadow, it gives an even colour to eyelids as per the BB cream in its name. Available $50 from October 2015 at Benefit counters, Auckland Airport, and www.smithandcaughey.co.nz
Beautiful -and beautifully soft- new Soft7 shoes from Scandinavian brand Ecco have rocked up and they. are. gorgeous. Buttery-soft leather and cool styling. I think it’s important to have a shoe that’s properly designed for your foot structure to give you proper support if you’re on your feet a lot. Obviously, they look awesome, too. They have an inlay sole that you can remove if you want the shoe wider inside, and I also like that they are made from full-grain leather as opposed to split leather (leather split to make two thin thicknesses to cut costs) like some brands. Available at Ecco shoes for $319 for women’s hi-tops, and $329 for men’s. See www.eccoshoes.co.nz for stockist info.
The fairy costumes are incredible at Midsummer Night’s Dream. We were blown away by Tracy Grant Lord’s incredible costuming. It’s also the most elaborate set I’ve ever seen at a NZ ballet production. Photos below from the NZ Ballet.
I visited my salon Blaze on Broadway Newmarket for my regular hair colour and Kelly was also so helpful and a deft hand with clipping in these Showpony hair extensions. Kelly said the trick to getting them blend well to the eye, is to curl the hair, which integrates your own hair really nicely with the extensions. Below: with my fabulous hair stylist Kelly Manu.
A highlight from last week was the LUSH ‘LUSHbizarre’ Christmas launch event from media and bloggers at Roxy bar down Fort Lane, and the interesting assortment of delights that it entailed. It’s not every beauty event you go to that has an aerial performer on pink ropes from the scaffolding above! Piles of LUSH Christmas boxes and products old and new were displayed on tables and LUSH staff talked us through them in detail and applied them to us to try in person.

Delish treats by raw food unbakery, Little Bird, at the LUSH Christmas event.
Speaking of food (as I always seem to be) I went for a couple of pretty amazing lunches last week. Firstly, I joined Cotton On at Seafarers Members Club for their Christmas launch. Although it’s wayyyy too early to be talking Christmas in the real world, here in fashion land we are all over it like a jumpsuit. We saw highlights from the Cotton On Group ranges including Cotton On Kids and Body, Typo, Rubi shoes, and Factorie.
Secondly, I headed in to the mezzanine level of The Cloud on the waterfront wharf with The Warehouse for their summer homewares collections launch. Below: Fruit flan by Allyson Gofton and fresh fruit platters for dessert.
Below: I’m in a house interior set up inside The Cloud with the cool new season home interiors by The Warehouse. I’m wearing a jacket by Lonely Hearts, halter top by Zambesi, top by Issey Miyake, denim pencil skirt by ZARA, glasses by Marc Jacobs, and boots by Mollini at Styletread.
See you next week!
