We’re here in Dunedin for the fantastic iD International Emerging Designer Awards and Railway Station Shows this week and absolutely loving the positive vibe of the whole town getting behind the fashion events, from the display when you land at Dunedin Airport carousel, to shop windows, to the art gallery and library exhibitions on supporting it. Here are some of my highlights of iD Dunedin Fashion Week (www.idfashion.co.nz) 2016 in photos from my Instagram threadnz…
Intro image: Carol Hirschfeld wearing NOM*d at Thursday night’s iD International Emerging Designer Awards show, with legendary New Zealand musicians Shayne Carter formerly of The Straitjacket Fits, and David Kilgour formerly of The Clean, playing live on stage. The live music added such a “Dunedin sound’ to the show.
Cheers to Margi Robertson of @nom_d – an iconic figure in New Zealand fashion history and one of my personal top five great NZ fashion designers of all time. I highly recommend you visit Dunedin Art Gallery to visit 3.33.12 exhibition.
I would fly to Dunedin for this if I wasn’t already here for iD. Margi Robertson’s exhibition of twelve outfits by various designers from her own wardrobe, at Dunedin Public Art Gallery in the Octagon is a beautiful and stunning glimpse into fashion history. Also – loved the Quartz Reef Wines.
Cool Dunedin people from Dada Vintage, at Dunedin Art Gallery for the exhibition opening.
I’m also loving exploring Dunedin city and eating my way around the cafes. We really enjoyed five spice chicken baguette and a Vietnamese slaw at Kiki Beware on George Street.
I arrived in Dunedin for iD to an amazing goodybag in my room ? Thank you Golden Centre Mall, Redken for the shampoo, Revlon for the makeup kit, L’Affare for the coffee and NOM*d for the socks!
Very innovative that Dunedin Airport made a fashion gallery out of the luggage carousel area promoting Company of Strangers, Charmaine Reveley and other local labels on mannequins to view when you land.
Personalised coffees at Koru Lounge at the airport.
Found another awesome cafe – Standard Kitchen in Dunedin’s Princes Street which was conveniently near my hotel, Scenic Southern Cross.
Such a cool shop – Plume Dunedin. Could go absolutely crazy in here.
Kate Sylvester speaking to a standing room-only crowd at Dunedin Art Gallery about her fashion journey, from a screen-printed SISTER tee, to her current A-Muse collection inspired by Picasso, and how all her collections are inspired by art, artists, and literature.
…And my eating tour of Dunedin continues with pulled pork and fish curry at Madam Woo.
How completely magical is the catwalk at night in Dunedin Railway station?! Clothes by Tanya Carlson on the runway under the fairy lights.
Which of these Air New Zealand uniforms do you remember seeing? Real staff – not models- walk the runway in past and present Air NZ uniforms.
Sunday morning after iD fashion week cup of coffee in my NOM*d socks ☕️
