On Wednesday night 24th August, Stolen Girlfriends Club presented their Spring Collection VIOLENCE TERROR CHAOS at the former First Scene building in Kingsland, Auckland.
Inspired by the grunge of an adolescent in the 90’s, VIOLENCE TERROR CHAOS came to fruition with an industrial soundtrack, with a German feel and peppered with 80’s electronic punk. (Follow Stolen’s Mixcloud for a free download).
Although Stolen Girlfriends Club have touched on grunge before, this season it is realised in a luxurious and thoroughly modern aesthetic. The use of beautiful fabrics and clean and wearable silhouettes, were amped up with clever detailing. The season’s stand out print was a filtered and toned back daffodil print, that tied together key components of a Stolen wardrobe – leather and denim.

Leather jackets and chaps were transformed with hand-drawn artwork by artist Micheala Van Der Laan. The leather collection was complemented by the additions of an oversized western shirt in lambskin, the swing dress, a pencil skirt, and the patent leather 501-style jeans. The grunge look was pulled together with customized Vans footwear, which also featured Michaela’s drawings.
Styled by Sebastian McGirr Hunt and Dylan Richards, the SGC girl is tough, tomboyish and sexy, and most likely wearing their boyfriend’s clothes. The SGC staple Lulu boot is now thigh-high by adding locally-made leather chaps. The boys are just as tough, wearing a combination of ‘Eastern Block’ and grunge.
Two models took over the SGC snapchat for the night, with Sophia Frankish covering backstage and Imogen Gentles providing an insight into the show from front of house.
Makeup was by Kiekie Stanners at M.A.C., and featured “next day beauty with slept in eyes and sweaty skin. The Stolen girl has put on her ultra glossy lip for the morning after.”
Hair by Richard Kavanagh was “inspired by underground youth culture and emerging desire.” The hair for the girls had a very lived in texture almost as if she’s slept in it and has flipped it off her face and tucked it loosely behind her ears to keep it out of her face.
“Getting the texture right is key for this look, and we layered multiple products to achieve just the right amount of grittiness and flexibility. The boys will have individualised looks depending on their haircut and texture.”
Lighting was designed by Angus Muir, and featured an audio-activated lighting installation through the spine of the venue.
