Some of my memorabilia from Fashion Weeks past! It starts today, at the Auckland Town Hall where it all began years ago, instead of the Viaduct where it’s been in recent years, due to the America’s Cup. I’m so excited for another great week of fashion, at New Zealand Fashion Week 2019! A shout out of gratitude to all the many amazing people who have contributed articles and photos over the years, including @annupam, Anya Brighouse @beautifulblack_nz@julieroulston@katiemareecole@jessmolina, James Yang, Robecca Leydon @sans_pareil_online@izzie.austin@tannethblair@evelynebrey, Sam and Dana Lee @photographybysamlee

So, what’s on? Here’s the Week’s Schedule for 2019

Nicky and I headed in to town to collect our Delegate packs from the Town Hall and ran into gorgeous Aki Ang of thesleekavenue, and Amber Peebles. Here’s what’s inside the delegate goody bag:

In the evening it was time for the opening party to kick off the week in the Town Hall Concert Chamber, complete with a L’Oreal Farmers Lip Bar, a Peroni Bar on stage and these photo booths by Auckland Conventions:

After the opening party celebrations, it was time for the big event: the first show of Fashion Week 2019, by one of the biggest names in New Zealand fashion, the much-loved Kate Sylvester. This was held in an enormous tent on the middle of Aotea Square where the ice rink had been until Friday. The show, Love Letters, had paper letters blowing over the catwalk inspired by a box of love letters the designer discovered a year ago that her parents had written to each other in the 1950s. The Fifties vintage feel continued into the clothing, with models in romantic berets and whimsical outfits with flower motifs and handkerchiefs tucked into bags and waistbands, walking in Kate Sylvester shoes and gumboots. Duo Purple Pilgrims again played live during the show. Kiekie Stanners for MAC Cosmetics did makeup and hair was lead by Sean Mahoney for Colleen salon using Evo and Cloud Nine. The show closed with a pair of brides in a black suit and a wedding dress, joined by the models.

From there, it was a walk down the road to a 9th floor office building- in a bright red light space with magazine collage art adorning the walls- for the Kate Sylvester after party complete with a live DJ, bar, and guests mingling on the outdoor verandah overlooking High Street where her Sister store was originally all those years ago.

Home to bed for a nice cup of tea and a good night’s sleep before we do it all again tomorrow on Day 2 of NZFW 19.
