What a great way to start the week than with a show for the L’Oreal Rock and Folk collection for Autumn/Winter 2010, a collection based on musical icons from the rock and folk genres and hosted by none other than hair rockstar Paul Serville himself and Melissa Hita, the National Education Manager for L’Oreal.
The theatre was packed for a Monday night, with stylists, would-be hairdressers, and those of us just wanting to know about the latest hair trends. The show featured a Rock segment and a Folk segment, demonstrating various hair styles for each part of the Rock and Folk Collection.
The show begun with the rock angels (pictured left) giving us a taste of things to come. The models featured bold, black and platinum cuts teamed with outfits featuring studded and leather finishes. The hairstyles were exaggerated quiffs, beehives, and for the boys, undercuts. Well the girls could have this too, but I wouldn’t attempt it unless you are really sure you want this hairstyle, and it suits your personal fashion. No point in following a trend if it’s not really you!
Paul Serville then talked the audience through the Rock and Folk 2010 autumn/winter collection, outlining the inspiration behind each of the styles.
The rock collection featured three various styles: a sharp hairstyle with a platinum colour, the men’s undercut, and the quiff.
Great high shine platinum blond with a sharp edgy fringe.
The men’s undercut.
The ultimate rock chick look; the quiff. The natural hair colour was kept but rinsed with a wash to enhance the shine.
The folk collection came next. The models opened with a mixture of dance, and music such as that which the folk collection represents; the lifestyle of the travelling muso. The folk look is all about eclectic prints, knits and the layering of soft flowing looks. Think daisies, butterflies and flowing fabrics. The folk look as before featured three hair styles.
The folk collection was were created by the Servilles Chancery team of Hayley, Ivan and Emma, with each hair stylist crafting their own folk look. The hair was kept close to natural shades and sharpened with contrasting colours to either lighten or deepen the colour.
The first look was created by Hayley, stylist from Chancery. Hayley created a sharp fringe, offset with soft layering around the sides. Next, a soft up-do was created by Ivan, also from the Servilles salon in Chancery. Ivan spent much of the time teasing and creating volume with the hair before he put it up. The final look was one of the best.
This last look was my favourite. Created by Emma, it’s a very feminine look. She used a pin-curl technique with a flat top to create the style, and created width around the middle of the do to give the style a soft and whimsical feel. We love!
