Doing lines

I admit to a fear of liquid eyeliners but I have been forced out of my comfort zone trialling the liquid and gel eyeliners from the Maybelline New York range and I will probably never return to a pencil again…

I’ll admit that I’m seldom seen with make-up on during the day. My priorities tend toward getting as much sleep as possible and allowing enough time once I’m awake to style my hair.

Because of this I get very little practice applying eyeliner and have always lacked the confidence needed to try anything other than my trusty pencil liner. Luckily, I have been forced out of my comfort zone trialling the liquid and gel eyeliners from the Maybelline New York range and I will probably never return to a pencil again.

My fear of liquid eyeliners has been overcome by the super fine applicator on the Master Precise Liquid Liner.

I was able to control the thickness of the glossy black liner so easily, creating a very fine tapered line which I could build up as I desired. The liquid eyeliner did not bleed or smudge onto my eyelid and the depth of colour remained throughout the day.

However on my most ‘experimental’ day the lovely extended flicks I applied had disappeared from the outer crease of my eye by the afternoon. It was but a matter of mere moments to reapply them before I left the house for a girl’s night out. For a bold black eye line the liquid liner certainly delivers.

If like me you secretly covet Stana Katic’s smoky-eyed look on ‘Castle’ then the Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner Black Collection is for you.

I love the gel formula as it allowed me to apply layer after layer until I was completely happy with both the shape and thickness of the line. The brush for applying the gel formula is soft yet firm and tapered making the process quite effortless. By the end of a humid Sunday the gel liner looked as though I’d just applied it, and this particular Sunday was my daughter’s third birthday complete with BBQ birthday party for eighteen people.

Lasting Drama Gel Liner comes in both Charcoal and Eggplant and at $19.99 I would think that you probably want to get both, I know I do.

The final touch for my eyes has come from Maybelline’s Volum’ Express ‘One By One’ Mascara. The ‘Blackest Black’ colour on the lashes is delivered by a lash catcher brush that creates volume and de-clumps at the same time. It is very effective at producing defined lashes and wore well throughout the day.
