I have fond (okay, mostly memory-repressed) recollections of a glittery eyeshadow I had years back that I thought made me look eyecatching and probably did, in the worst possible way! I have to say first up: these are not glitter shadows. There is no nasty fall-out that will leave your sueded shoes looking like Judy Garland’s ruby slippers as you bat your lashes. No, you can Burn Down The Disco, as The Smiths would say, in these shimmery sparkly delights that are more glistening than actual disco ball. MAC Dazzle Eye Shadows are designed to pick up the light and let you run with it.
What it is:
MAC Dazzle Shadows are single-pot, eyeshadow colours in a variety of light, dark, and colour shades, with pigmented shimmer. They can be worn as eyeshadow and anywhere else you like for the outrageous. I would wear the paler colours over the inner eye and brow bone, and the darker colours over the outer eye and with a wet brush for more intensity as a shimmery liner.
What’s Hot
The paler shade, ‘She Sparkles’ is my favourite of the ones I trialled; it goes on smoother than butter on a hot potato and glistens like the Waitemata on a sunny day. As I mentioned already, they are not cheap and glittery-looking; they are sparkly and clear. I want to say like a thousand luminous spheres but if you are over a certain age, you’ll know that Suzanne Paul got there first.
What’s Not
I can’t think of anything bad to say about these except that you will want them all so it will be dangerous; what I call the Pringle effect- once you pop you can’t stop. As with all sparkly eyeshadows, you DO need to wear an eyelid base so that the shadow adheres properly to your lid; people who often complain of excess eyeshadow fall-out are omitting this step.
