I met Kevin Murphy to talk hair and saving the planet

Kevin Murphy himself visited New Zealand in March and I was fortunate enough to meet the hair legend to talk hair and saving the planet.

Kevin came over for a showcase, and to talk about the brand’s newest environmental policy – all of the brand’s plastic bottles will be made from recycled Ocean Waste Plastic.

KEVIN.MURPHY will rework its bottles to be made exclusively from 100% recycled ocean plastics. The company will be the first ever beauty brand to implement this practice, which is projected to save the planet over 360 tons of new plastic each year. The recycled bottles will begin debuting globally in salons in mid-2019. “This change is for the future of our environment and for us to be truly sustainable – to clean up our oceans for the sake of our planet and for future generations,” said brand founder, Kevin Murphy, explaining his passion for this important initiative. KEVIN.MURPHY’s commitment to the environment is ingrained in its very foundation. The company was built utilising organic growing practices, micro cultivation, and ecologically-sound wild harvesting techniques to ensure the very highest natural quality product. This latest initative is a reflection of the company’s unwavering values, and represents an urgent call to action to help protect our vast oceans and marine life. The effects of the ocean waste plastic initiative will be two-fold. This campaign will not only make a profound impact on the world’s plastic production, but is intended to start an industry-wide conversation about the heart of the issue; safe packaging disposal. With this launch, KEVIN.MURPHY aims to change the industry standard, and will transparently share its eco-friendly processes so other brands or persons interested can take a stand alongside them.
