New from MAC this month come two exciting new products that are quite fresh and unique in their fields, namely, Studio WaterWeight foundation, and Vamplify lipglosses. WaterWeight is unique in that it’s an elastic gel serum formula, meaning fluid and thin formulation that blurs imperfections. Vamplify lipglosses are also a hot new product, as they are the most pigmented and rich lip glosses they’ve ever released at MAC (and indeed the richest lipglosses I have ever come across.) I have shot the Vamplify lip glosses against flowers from my garden that I thought perfectly complemented their respective baby pink and hot orange colours.
Studio WaterWeight
When you hear the words “water weight” to be honest it’s not good. You immediately think of bloating and water retention and drinking lemon juice. But this is NOT ABOUT THAT so just relax. This is a GOOD WATER WEIGHT. It’s a revolutionary new formulation of foundation that has got thinner but not ‘watered down’ or just a tinted moisturiser like some BB creams are; instead, this is an elastic gel serum. This means that it has a weightless feel so your face will feel like Matt Damon on Mars. I found it very light; lighter than Coke Life, lighter than MAC BB cream and lighter than the Rise filter on Instagram. I am used to a medium-full coverage foundation, so I used two layers and it was buildable without flaking. I used the MAC 196 slanted top foundation brush which is AMAZING and velvety soft like a baby panda’s paws. MAC have invented Moisture-Fusion Complex to hydrate skin both on application and for hours to come. Yes, it is ideal for oily skin, and it is non-caking. I also like that it gives full spectrum sun protection of UVA/UVB SPF 30 making it perfect for summer when you want 1. a lighter coverage 2. sun protection and 3. no flaking after hours of wear. Foundation $72, Brush $90.
MAC Vamplify Lip Gloss
MAC Vamplify Lip Gloss, unlike many exes, is quite simply here for a good time AND for a long time. MAC have developed a kickin’ new technology for these joy sticks of colour that boosts colour so that each of the sweet seventeen shades is packed to its glossy gunnels with high-powered pigments. Swipe left! Swipe right! Each swipe gives a rich dramatic colour fix that I have never seen the like of. I wore it for literally HOURS before it wore off completely. You could apply this, watch the extended Director’s Cut of Dances With Wolves, and it would still be on at the end. Lipgloss $50 available now at all MAC locations New Zealand wide.
