Whilst a fresh, dewy complexion is gorgeous, excess shine can ruin the look (and hold) of your makeup. There are some great solutions on the market for prevention as well as providing a base under foundation to fix this, and Benefit Cosmetics has one of the best ranges out there. In line with all their gorgeous packaging, this has a retro pin up girl theme with a secret agent as its face. This theme comes through in the product names such as Agent Zero Shine, and Licence To Blot.
So, rise and shine (no more!) with Benefit’s secret weapons against shine to mattify and absorb excess oil. Benefit Cosmetics has two new secret weapons to defeat pores and shine: Invisible Mattifying Gel, and 8 Super Cleaning Pore Masks, which join their popular much-loved products POREfessional, and Licence to Blot, in the pore range.
What products are there to make us look PERfect and not POREfect? Let’s take a look…
THE POREFESSIONAL
The POREfessional pore minimising balm is a clear, exceptionally silky balm that softens the look of pores and provides a great base for makeup. You can either apply it under foundation or over it. It is perfect for that flawless selfie look without needing a filter. It retails for $57 for 22mls.
MATTE RESCUE
This new release is a companion product to the classic POREfessional primer pictured above. The POREfessional MATTE RESCUE is an invisible-finish mattifying gel that you apply underneath POREfessional to absorb excess oil and give a matte result to skin. Rather than most oil-based products, MATTE RESCUE is water-based, making it ideal for oily skins. It is $49 for 50mls.
LICENCE TO BLOT
This instant oil-blotting stick is a solid wax formulation to round out the three ways you can blot oil: powder, stick, and gels. You can use one method, or layer all three, for heavy duty oil-fighting weaponry. This oil-blotter is a wind-up tube in a triangular shape that is easy to dot in to specific areas of concern such as the sides of the nose which a round shape would find difficult to get into. Then, you just blend it in for a flawless finish. It retails for $38 for 4.3g.
AGENT ZERO SHINE
This is a modern version of the iconic makeup must-have: a blotting loose powder. Loose powders have been around forever; just think of all those women in black and white Hollywood movies saying they were off to “powder their nose”. This contemporary version is a shine-vanishing PRO powder that comes in a handy tube which you twist, tap and brush on. You can reapply it during the day and it won’t spill out in your purse as the tube seals so beautifully. It retails for $58 for 7grams.
INSTANT WIPE OUT MASKS
Fabric facial masks have come a long way since they first came onto the market, and these are top of the technology, with dual-sided masks with a special textured fabric that does two things: exfoliate, and remove pore impurities. This helps to give a smooth appearance to pores that crop up – usually around the T zone on most of us – around the nose, forehead and chin area. The Instant Wipe Out Masks retail for $55 for a box of 8.
All these are available now at Benefit counters at Smith & Caugheys, Auckland Airport, David Jones Wellington, Ballantynes in Christchurch, and online at www.smithandcaugheys.co.nz
