Last Thursday I was lucky enough to attend the product launch of Kerastase’ new creation, Kerastase Resistance Therapiste. The launch was a fabulous affair of drinks, canapes and entertainment – with half-dressed acrobats pulling poses – and an informative presentation of the new range for damaged hair repair. This collection has been especially created for those of us with extremely damaged and over-processed hair, which I expect is the vast majority of us, given the prevalence of hair colour, straighteners and blow dryers in use today.
So here are some things I learned from the presentation:
Keratin Associated Proteins (KAPs) represent half of hair fibres and when the hair is damaged these KAPs disappear which results in damaged hair structure.Gradually the hair fibre is destroyed.
Kerastase’ new fomula contains the sap of the Myrothamnus Flabellifiola (say it fast 10 times), an amazing ‘resurrection plant’ which is able to come back to life after even 10 years near death.
During testing, damaged, over-processed hair, which had been treated with the product, came out stronger than ‘virgin’ undamaged hair which had not used the product.
For fine hair it is recommended that the conditioner be used before the shampoo.
I decided to do my own trial of these products for a week, which is made up of a shampoo/balm, conditioner, masque and serum:
Kerastase Resistance Soin Premier Therapiste RRP: $50
Following the directions religiously I used this lightweight conditioner before the shampoo and noticed a definite improvement in the texture and thickness of my hair. My hair still felt soft after the wash but it was not as limp as usual. While the reverse technique is unique it really did seem to protect my hair during cleansing.
Kerastase Resistance Bain Therapiste RRP: $42.00
The unique “jellified texture” is meant to repair the hair while shampooing it, and I noticed a real improvement in the strength of my hair and less “fly away”. I only needed to use a small amount to get a good coverage and my hair did not feel as oily the next day as it normally does the day after washing my hair.
Kerastase Resistance Masque Therapiste RRP: $67.00
This divine masque has been created for extremely damaged thick hair and while I may have fine hair, the texture and softness of my over-dyed hair was greatly improved by this wonderful smelling concoction.
Kerastase Resistance Serum Therapiste RRP: $46.00.
Designed for both fine and thick hair, this leave-in serum repairs damaged hair and protects it against heat up to 230 degrees (so you should be fine) and is perfect for treating split ends. It has an oily, yet creamy texture but is the ultimate in hair indulgence, leaving my hair soft and healthy looking even after a prolonged blow-drying session.
Verdict
I used the range for one week on my extremely damaged, fine hair with excellent results. I noticed a definite improvement on the texture and thickness of my hair and my old waves had started to come back. My hair felt stronger and I noticed less hair sticking to my hair brush or clogging the shower plug! While Kerastase products are pricey, the good news is that a little goes a long way and you really don’t need to use much per wash to get a great outcome. Highly recommended if your hair is dry and damaged.
