Fraser Crowe + Fashion Revolution CARE, ASK, KNOW Ribbon Share

Fraser Crowe + Fashion Revolution CARE, ASK, KNOW Ribbon Share

When: 11am – 3pm, 24 April 2018

Where:  Various places along Ponsonby Rd between Western Park and Three Lamps, Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand

Why: We believe that small acts can lead to systematic change. We also believe that transparency in the clothing industry matters and, like fashionrevolution.org, that a great first step towards change is asking ‘who made my clothes?’

Our CARE, ASK, KNOW Ribbon Share is aimed to begin, continue or develop small conversations (on the footpath and beyond) about the bigger issues of valuing garment makers, demonstrating transparency in the supply chain and caring about environmental impacts of clothing manufacture and purchase.

24 April 2018 marks five years since the horrific collapse of Rana Plaza in Bangladesh where more than 1130 garment workers lost their lives and over 2500 people were injured. Our event, part of the global Fashion Revolution collective movement, gives members of the public a limited edition ribbon we have printed for this occasion to pin to their clothes for the day (or longer).

A little more about the people involved:

Fraser Crowe (Kim Fraser and Deborah Crowe), is a small Auckland-based women’s clothing label launched online in October 2017. We are ethically and environmentally motivated designers, and lovers of clothing and textiles. We aim to challenge the norm and deliberately stray from typical fashion models, pushing against fast fashion trends by making beautiful sustainable clothing. We are keen to inspire supply chain responsibility with our small collection of authentic products that consider wasteful issues and consequences for people and the environment.

Our current collection features garments cut, designed (and packaged) with sustainability at the fore, all made in Aotearoa New Zealand. The label is contemporary directional design, with a variety of trans seasonal pieces that can often be worn more than one way.

Fashion Revolution Aus NZ is a branch of the global movement Fashion Revolution that was founded in the UK in response to a need for action after the Rana Plaza disaster. The phrase “who made your clothes? is the simple question Fashion Revolution suggests asking first. Fraser Crowe has printed ribbons with CARE, ASK and KNOW added to this question. We see this as a way to begin discussion (from the street and beyond) towards transparency about supply chain in the clothing industry.
