Next up…retail happenings around town
FARMERS IN QUEEN STREET
This is HUGE news…Farmers, which has always had a presence in the city for all my life, first at its original Hobson St store with the famous rooftop playground and then on Queen Street closed last year and seemed to have moved to the Westfields and suburb sites. Now, it is back with a prime location on the corner of Victoria and Queen. Bringing 46 new jobs, some of the highlights to the new store are: a Whitcoulls walk-through and a Nespresso store inside, Philips and also Breville stores, a LEGO shop, a marble entrance way and a central chandelier above the escalators comprising glass sails in celebration of ‘City of Sails’, two Swarovski crystal mannequins in the Victoria St-facing window, beauty brands such as YSL, Lancome, Revlon, Clarins, Clinique, Estee Lauder and Shiseido, as well as the elusive NYX brand (pronounced nix) New Zealand debut among the self-select cosmetics. New Zealand owned, Farmers operates 58 department stores in rural and city locations around the country.
HAILWOOD TEES WITH LOCALIST
The LOVE LOCAL t-shirt series will see ongoing collaborations with local designers and artists creating unique limited edition designs. The Hailwood t-shirt release this week is the first in the collector’s series. Localist General Manager Christina Sayers Wickstead says “Adrian delighted with his unpredictable graphic of a black and white NZ native Kea on grey marle – a truly Hailwood take on capturing the spirit of localism. We love because it is so in keeping with the Hailwood animal print signature but has a New Zealand personality all of its own.” Adrian explains: “I came up with the idea to use the Kea as he is a cheeky bird but also an endangered species. I was relating this concept back to local businesses in terms of the way people are shopping online these days from overseas retailers, thus making local businesses somewhat endangered. “It’s really important for people to support local businesses and be aware of the impact online shopping has to their local community.” The collector series t-shirts are a special Hailwood price of $58. V covered a wall in downtown Auckland with white t-shirts, which would form the canvas for an epic, largescale mural. Fuelled by V, Mr. G worked late into the night creating his masterpiece. Once he was done, we were left with 200 one of a kind V graffiti tees. Get in quick to shotgun your favourite design as they will sell out faster than that flash chocolate milk.
