ESTEE LAUDER BRANDS WELLINGTON POP-UP
Great news for beauty lovers in the capital since the demise of Kirkcaldie & Stains (closing in February 2016, after 152 years) until its buyer, David Jones, is set up in a few months in mid-2016: The Pop-Up Beauty Boutique opens officially on February 19th 2016. The temporary beauty shop will house seven international cosmetics and skincare brands including Estée Lauder, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, MAC, Jo Malone London, La Mer and Lab Series. In addition to retail, a variety of beauty therapy and makeup services will be available from these Estee Lauder Companies brands. The pop-up is situated at Shop 4, 108 Lambton Quay. Sixteen staff and beauty advisers from Kirkcaldie & Stains will be employed at the Pop-Up Beauty Boutique. Each of the brands will carry their full product line-up, and phone orders will also be possible, to serve the wider Wellington region.
M∙A∙C VIVA GLAM Ariana Grande
The coolest girl out now has her own MAC collection: VIVA GLAM Ariana Grande. As Bob Dylan sung, there ain’t no neutral ground: this is all in for a dark dark lip, or soft as a feather in a light as air lipgloss. Whether you opt for an almost-blackened plum lip or walk the angelic side in a shimmery pink lipglass there’s a good girl and bad girl look for you all to try, available from 11th February 2016 from all authorized M∙A∙C locations as a limited collection. As always with Viva Glam releases, every cent (not JUST the profits) goes towards men, women and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
FASHION NEWS
ARROWED BY KAREN WALKER
The arrow symbol which Karen Walker has used for the past decade is the inspiration for the latest eyewear collection. Karen Walker said they chose the arrow symbol for its representation of “optimism and fearlessness”, but I also think it shows how they are sharp and on point, excuse the pun. Prices are $369 for the acrylic frames, and $409 for the four one-piece glass with metal trim styles, which all have tortoiseshell arms. Liberty print frames are $399- $429. Shop it at www.karenwalker.com
ETHICAL FASHION INITIATIVE FOR KAREN WALKER
Also from Karen Walker, comes the release of their new season ethical fashion initiative. The two new beach totes and a clutch are handcrafted carefully by micro artisans in Kenya, bringing “jobs, not charity” to the women, using fashion to help reduce poverty. Available at Karen Walker stores and online.
GREY + WILD
Attention parents: want fresh new cool clothing for your children? There’s a great new kids fashion store that has recently opened in Hurstmere Road in Takapuna, across the road from The Commons. Grey + Wild retails a range of super cool international kids clothing brands, most of which are available in New Zealand for the first time. It is also the first local stockist of Nick Clegg’s latest kids brand ‘Triangle’ (read about Triangle on Thread here) and home to the ever-popular Munster Kids range. As well as fashion, it stocks a collection of interior brands ranging from bedding to lighting, décor pieces and accessories. The store has been opened by Jackie Kulak who moved to NZ last year from London and found a lack of options when it came to cool kids clothes for her two young children. HEALTH AND FITNESS NEWS
LES MILLS ‘THE TRIP’
Les Mills gym’s new fitness programme, ‘The Trip’, is coming soon and I shall be trying it out next week in Newmarket. The Immersive Fitness technology used in ‘The Trip’ merges cinema quality graphics and sound with high intensity exercise in a purpose built studio. Fitness routines are synced to the surrounding screen and music with instructors controlling the choreography of each session.
STUDIO RED YOGA
I headed in to City Works yesterday to try out a hot yoga session at the recently-opened Studio Red Yoga. The five yoga teachers lead us in ten minute sessions each in the beautifully-designed yoga studio, as a taster of the various types of yin and yan yoga that they offer. Top Auckland architect Nat Cheshire designed the incredible space, and classes are priced around $30. I found the staff not only knowledgeable, but super friendly and lovely too. Visit them at Studio Red, City Works Depot at 90 Wellesley Street, Auckland central and online at Studio Red Yoga.
POWER LIVING YOGA
Power Living is set to officially launch into New Zealand this month with its very first custom built yoga studio in Wellington’s CBD. Yoga teacher and community leader Justine Hamill is already working on ideas for community events and local Wellington promotions. “We are kicking off with an amazing special – $49 for your first month of yoga. It’s a great deal and we will give us a chance to meet many of the locals who live and work in our vibrant city” says Justine. Class schedules and teacher training schedules can be found at www.powerliving.com.au/whats-on with an opening event on Friday 29th January, and Open Day Yoga on Saturday 30th January, at Level 2, National Chambers, 15 Johnston Street, Wellington.
