Yes, it’s true – ZARA is coming and today it set an opening date. By now, you will know all about H&M opening its first New Zealand store in Sylvia Park Auckland on 1st October. Read about H&M coming to NZ on Threadnz here. Today, we got the announcement below that Kiwi Property is opening ZARA fast on the well-heeled footsteps of H&M’s opening, also at Sylvia Park, on Thursday 6 October at 9.30am.
Those of us who have lived in or travelled to UK and Europe will be already very familiar with ZARA. It develops runway trends and styles quickly for mass market fans of fashion at a good price. Many New Zealand shoppers have been buying it on trips to Sydney, but will no longer need to with the advent of this large store coming here next month.
ZARA is part of the Inditex.com group of companies and you can read its animal welfare, supply chain, and sustainability mission statements here.
Kiwi Property Chief Executive, Chris Gudgeon said “We are excited that ZARA – one of the world’s most successful retail brands – has chosen to open its first New Zealand store at Sylvia Park. It takes a significant investment in time and money to launch in new markets, so we are thrilled to be chosen as the pick of the New Zealand retail centres for this outstanding brand.”

Some interesting points about the mall and the money spent…
Kiwi Property has spent $11.5 million on the ZARA store.
The brand joins international newcomers H&M, Kiehl’s, Converse, Nike and Adairs.
440,000 people live within a 10 minute drive of the shopping centre; 1.18 million people within 20 minutes; and 91% of Auckland’s population, 1.43 million people, live within a 30 minute drive.
In the 12 months to 31 March 2016, Sylvia Park generated annual retail sales of $455 million with 12.6 million visitors per year. Total trade area retail sales were $11.2 billion as at June 2015, projected to grow at approx. 4.7% per annum to approximately $23.5 billion by 2031.
Sylvia Park is actually currently the country’s largest enclosed mall (total rentable area of approx 74,000 sqm.)
I will definitely be heading in to check it out and you can see what I think and photos I take, on my social media, at Twitter @threadnz and Instagram @threadnz and Snapchat @threadnz.
