Alice McCall Resort 2018 – our favourite looks from the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2018.
The Resort 2019 collection by Alice McCall showcased feminine-yet sexy dresses in gossamer-thin lace and ruffles a-plenty for the confident woman who likes to show her body in flirty, fun fashion. Bursts of fresh pistachio green punctuated the neutral and black garments and a show-stopping metallic gold piece with fanned-out shoulders lent a futuristic edge.
“I design dresses for girls to have a great time in. To celebrate. To have fun.” says Alice McCall – so dance away in fine pleated tulles or a flurry of vertical ruffles, and lounge in garden florals or modern tea dresses shot through with lace. It’s beyond pretty here, a calling card for alice McCALL. She is all about the update, referencing old Chantilly lace and tablecloths draped and pleated to concoct modern silhouettes.
“I find it really interesting to push boundaries… to create something that is pretty and add a boldness.” Florals are punched up in colour and execution, and sweet pastels are strengthened when offset with turn-around-twice fuchsias and acidic apple greens – a rich spectrum of saturations and hues – “a colour discord,” as McCall puts it.
Come sundown, there are the evening-ready twinsets to metallic lurex dresses of layered pleats in shades of champagne, ultra violet and fuchsia. “It’s full of colour and still with beautiful wonderment.” The contrasts are at play within the fabrics too, with silk organza gowns doused in brights, and denim with feminine touches like contrast stitching that mimic corsetry and flared sleeves.
