MBFWA Day 4

Winding down a little for a more relaxed day of fantastic fashion, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Day 4 saw a lighter schedule and another bright, beautiful day. Opening the day with a stunning moody film by Australian artist Murray Fredericks, Blessed Are The Meek (pictured below) showed a sports luxe collection of digital prints in moody hues and monochromatic tones. The barely-there lighting added a slightly ethereal touch to a thoughtful but thoroughly modern collection.

Next up was Suboo, who presented a casual chic collection of resortwear with a focus on clever construction and cut-out details. Pops of brights contrasting with eyecatching prints on separates and sleek dresses. More young designers keen to show their unique looks followed with The Innovators show, featured were designers; Leroy Nguyen, Elissa McGowan, Inder Dhillon, Paul Scott, Vinh Nguyen and Ying Yuan.

I loved Leroy Nguyen’s rainbow bright prints (pictured below),

Inder Dhillon’s casual cool (pictured below)

and Ying Yuan’s show-stopping creations that looked like they were borrowed from Lady Gaga’s wardrobe.

Speaking of Lady Gaga, making his MBFWA debut was Phoenix Keating (pictured below), whose designs have already caught the eye of the superstar and with the dramatic collection he presented today it’s not hard to see why. A mixture of avant-garde silhouettes, fascinating textures and stunning styling saw made for an unforgettable show in The Box space. Words really don’t do his fantastic creations justice.

Minimalism and clean lines from Haryono Setiadi were up next, followed by Emma Mullholland, who presented a lively 80’s inspired collection of bright busy prints in wearable shapes.

The most anticipated show of the day, Shakuhachi, finished the day off with a colourful collection of florals, pretty prints and irredescent embellishments and fabrics which reminded me a bit of Barbie’s wardrobe in a good way. Fun, flirty and full of sixties silhouettes, there were lots of cute pieces to covet amongst the collection (picture below).

Wrapping up the week with just a handful of shows on Day 5, I’m looking forward to seeing what Zambesi have to offer.
