We headed into Golden Dawn for the fourth consecutive year of Marr Factory in-season runway shows, to see Zambesi show SS15/16 to fashion fans. What’s cool and different about their show is its mix of profesh models with ‘Zambassadors’; local personalities from various fields across music, fashion, film and their friends, modelling their clothes on the catwalk. They are the “Zam Fam’, and what a fashionable family it is. One of the Zambassadors was even the key MAC makeup artist!
Zambassadors for 2015 included: Lance & Ursula Seven, Jimmy Mac, Teuila Blakely, Sally-Ann Mullin, Matt Benns, Kiekie Stanners, Brant Fraser, Bruno Findlay, Marcel Gull, Pieter Stewart, Julia Deans, Ben Jurisich, Helene Ravlich, Benny Tipene, Indy Yelich, Josh Mckenzie, Penny Pickard, Louise Tulloch, Lylah Westbrook, Jasper Seven, Sam Focas, Michael Whittaker, Ethan Keen, David Holwerda, Liv O’Driscoll, Ngahuia Williams, Juliette Perkins, Mary Maguet & Ella Corbin. The show was supported by Bombay Sapphire, Shop Viva, Hallertau Brewery, Quartz Reef Wines, and Karma Cola, with makeup by MAC and hair by Stephen Marr.

A team spirit also embodies the Zambesi Spring/Summer 2015-16 collection itself, cleverly uniting divergent design principles. Within the elements of minimalist design, a vital energy comes out to play. The avant-garde runs alongside reborn classics. Oversized pieces allow experimentation with silhouettes.
Pure Japanese cottons and sportswear fabrics are used unexpectedly in tailored garments, subtly referencing the uniform. The Zambesi Outfitters archival 80’s logo is flocked onto fronts and backs of garments in eyelet and lining, a ‘team logo’ to be worn with pride.
Oversized tanks and t-shirts contradict narrow trousers. A vintage market-find trench is reinterpreted in a summer weight, cut with a mesh back and suiting front.Tailoring is dressed down to create a casual vibe, as a sportswear influence prevails throughout the collection.
Functional and minimal in its simplicity, the collection unifies a passion for fabric with texture and form, and stays true to the ever-evolving nature of the brand, proudly Made in New Zealand.
