VAMFF Day 1

I’d sum up the show in two words: sartorial and buffet. With 44 labels, it’s impossible for one to leave Central Pier feeling famished at Melbourne Fashion Festival…

Thread is on location at Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF) and our reporter Diane Pantoja brings us daily reports and highlights…

What a day! After an abnormally busy workday, I could not be any happier that it ended on a high note thanks to the Opening Event of Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival presented by David Jones and supported by Vogue Australia.

I’d sum up the show in two words: SARTORIAL. BUFFET. With 44 labels, and with each label showing more or less 6 looks, it’s impossible for one to leave Central Pier feeling famished. As one look walked down the runway after another, I tried to spot the ‘obvious’ trend but to no avail. Colour-blocking and print-on-print – two popular trends were both represented. Layering was abundant yet barely-there ensembles were present too. I guess ‘variety’ is the trend.

Below: the catwalk finale at David Jones. See what I mean. Spot the 50 shades of denim. Aaaah! Denim-on-denim-on-denim = LOVE.

Below: Beautiful sheer side panel dress by Christopher Esber. LWDs (little white dresses) outnumbered the LBDs (little black dresses). I know they’re both closet staples, but I reckon it’s the former’s turn under the spotlight.

Below: Jac+Jack models in convos (Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars) = YES PLEASE.

Below: Bianca Spender. This yummy shade of blue was very evident in the runway yesterday. I’m not complaining, this hue is perfection.

Below: Nicholas is another personal favourite, as one can never go wrong with a nautical-inspired collection.

Designer: Sabatini. As for the top accessory from the lot, my personal bet would be hats. #obsessing

Here’s a little more dissection of what went down yesterday:

VAMFF HITS:

– free coffee courtesy of LAVAZZA www.lavazza.com.au

– event staff and volunteers are very polite (not too mention, very accommodating when you ask them to take your outfit photo)

– the photographer’s pit is so spacious – a win for team media!

– free coffee courtesy of LAVAZZA – cannot.stress.this.enough.

VAMFF MISSES:

– is it just me or the goodie bag is on a diet?

– most models didn’t have strong walks… not judging, just saying.

It’s not too late for you to SEE. FEEL.and REACT, as their slogan reads. Catch one of the many incredible offerings VAMFF has this year. Visit their website at vamff.com.au for more information.
