Designer Tymone Winter of Wellington leather label Empire of Genius recently launched her new collection of leather handbags and accessories with a fashion show at Exhibitions Gallery, Wellington.
Tymone Winter studied fashion at Massey University, and has all her collections designed and produced in New Zealand. With a background in tailoring, drape pattern making and textile art, she had a successful handbag, accessories, and clothing label as well as a line of jewellery that has been sold throughout NewZealand and Australia. Her creative background also includes work in costume, buying and styling in the film industry.
These days, Tymone designs luxury leather wear, handbags and accessories for her label, Empire of Genius as well as limited edition garments.
The first Empire of Genius collection, ‘ Slasher,’ launched in July 2014. This collection was inspired by texture and repetitive patterns that have been hand crafted, using various techniques of hole punching, slashing and draping.
Tymone says she relishes the “subtle imperfections in hand cutting and crafting, as these techniques give the pieces a luxurious bespoke edge.”
